After crashing in our hotel bed almost as soon as we hit the pillows, we awoke to sunshine pouring through our windows. My first breath was full of relief, joy, excitement and curiousity. I wondered what the day would bring to our small group. How would we make an impact today? Also, what does Honduras actually look like? We arrive so late at night that we could not see anything. I hurried to the shower to take the yuck off from the day before. I gratefully remembered that we couldn't use the water for brushing our teeth. It is extremely unclean and could make one VERY sick. We were provided water bottles in our rooms so that we could use it to brush our teeth instead. After applying a good layer of bug spray lotion, sunscreen, and packing my fanny pack for the day, I set forth outside to take a look around.
Honduyate was the name of hotel in which we were staying.
It abuts the largest lake in Honduras, Lago de Yojoa.
Lago de Yojoa is volcanic in origin and sits in a volcanic depression.
We were surrounded by forrested mountains.
The noise coming out of the woods surrounding us was incredible.
Honduyate is actually one of the most traveled to locations for bird watching. Some birds can only be seen here.
A pier can be walked to via a very rustic path and questionable bridge made of iron.
It features a botanical garden which has a small trail to view it's glory.
We were staying in a larger separate building on the property which had multiple rooms. It was perfect for our group to be able to stay together, and have devotions every night.
It was breakfast time so we ventured forth through the hotel grounds toward the balcony of the restaurants upper room. Every morning we were provided a hot breakfast, fresh fruit, juice, and best of all LOCAL COFFEE! For me this was a very happy thing indeed. I love a good cup of coffee in the morning. We conversed about the plan for the day, and marveled together about God's hand in the day before's travel chaos. The thing we learned most during this breakfast is that papaya is a like or hate fruit. It has the weirdest after taste, my personal opinion. Warner was the only one who actually enjoyed it.
